One of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, the incredible Somnath sanctuary is known to be a standout amongst the most lovely sanctuaries in Gujarat that exist from antiquated times. It is said that the sanctuary was initially worked by the Moon God in gold, revamped by Ravana in silver and afterward by Lord Krishna in wood and afterward King Bhimdev in stone. The sanctuary was seriously harmed and plundered of its wealth by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1024 AD. The sanctuary was assaulted at a few events in 1706, 1927 and 1934.
The present structure was raised by the support of Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel in the year 1950. Today, it is overseen by Shree Somnath Trust. The seven-story structure of the sanctuary is in Chalukya style of design and gloats of magnificent surroundings as it is spot on its unique site, by the ocean. It is otherwise called Deo Pattan, Prabhas Pattan, and Somnath Pattan.
